It's just so easy to spend my time reading instead of writing, or cleaning, or cooking or - well you get the idea.Laura Childs is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. I love all three of her series: the Tea Shop Mysteries, The Scrapbooking mysteries and the Cackleberry Club mysteries.What I liked about the book: In this book as well as the previous two books, the reader feels like they are part of a small town community. Even though there is indeed a murder or two, the comradery among the characters was what really stood out for me. I felt like I was visiting with old friends. The characters are well developed and likeable. Granted, there is the one character (isn't there always one?) that is annoying and you wish would just go away, but unlike some series, this character doesn't play a major role. I thought the twist on speed dating with the book club was an interesting idea. I love how these women are living their dreams. Who wouldn't want to have a business that incorporated all of their likes: food, crafts, and books. Hmm, sounds like my dream job.What I didn't like about the book: Though I loved the emphasis on the lives and relationships of Suzanne, Toni and Petra, at times I felt as though the mystery was shoved too far back on the back burner. Sometimes it felt as though it was an after thought. That's why I only gave it 4 stars, but the characters and the development of their stories, for me at least, more than made up for the lack of emphasis on the mystery.I can't wait to read these ladies' next adventure. If you like cozy mysteries (with recipes) this is a series you should try.
